Off the Beaten Path
Join me on an adventure. Where will we go today?
Please add this to your bucket list! It is a spectacular display of over 38 animal lanterns and interactive lights. My grandkids enjoyed the bubble machines the most. When you hit the bubbles, smoke appears. Second for them was the lighted up circular swings. For me, the motorized peacock was my top favorite. The tale slowly fanned up and back down. They say pictures are worth a thousand words so I will let my pictures speak for the festival. The requisite light up wands and stars were sold at very reasonable prices as well as a souvenir cup filled with hot chocolate. It requires a separate event ticket and does not include day Chattanooga Zoo admission. I hold a grandparent's annual pass and enjoy many events at the Chattanooga Zoo. After seeing the lights at Chester Frost Park, Dollywood, and Disney Christmas lights, I was not expecting to be impressed. This lantern festival rivals any I have seen.
Lanterns are an important part of Asian culture. The 2023 version coming to the Chattanooga zoo is a new collection with over 30 of the breath-taking lanterns and nine interactive displays. It will run from November 16th through January 14th, 2024. Last year's festival was amazing and this one promises to be bigger, combining the art and culture with the magic of traditional Asian lantern festivals.
Indoor exhibits are closed and the Zoo animals do not participate in the festival.
Chattanooga area people, this is not to be missed. As you can see from my pictures last year, it is spectactular.
ember 16th, 2023, through January 14th, 2024, offering a unique celebration of art, culture, and the magic of traditional Asian lantern festivals.
