Off the Beaten Path
Join me on an adventure. Where will we go today?
In separate posts, I cover all the parades I attended for Mardi Gras in 2023. People are always amazed at how much loot I carry home from the parades. I can see all sorts of evil thoughts roam through their brains as their eyes shine with the memory of what they have heard. The unglamorous truth is that we catch some of the beads tossed with abandonment and velocity from the floats. I am still bruised a week later from a massive bead necklace. I pick them up off the ground after the parades. I put them in the hotel bathtub and washed them because many reeked of smoke and alcohol. That is the objective and no-fun truth. One year, I took a rake and raked them into boxes. You can see for yourself that I am very successful in bead and loot accumulation. One picture in the slide show is a wagon that is essential for carrying snacks, chairs, and coolers to the parade site. It is now full of beads, most picked up off the ground at ONE parade. You can see from another picture all the loot and beads just left on the ground. We saw this at every one of the parades we attended.
We just lift the wagon into the hatch, drive to hotel, unload and pull through the lobby. We gave beads away to guests that requested because not everyone knew about the parade. From here, bathtub! Now, I have bags of beads that I gifted to different organizations to use for 2024 Fat Tuesday pancake dinners and other events.
