Off the Beaten Path
Join me on an adventure. Where will we go today?
Dry Falls near Highlands, NC, is anything but dry! The only thing I can come up with is that you can walk behind the falls and stay relatively dry. I have seen these Falls many seasons, and the volume varies. Always impressive, this 75-foot waterfall is a must-see on your bucket list.
This past July 2022, we navigated curvy, winding mountain roads with no traffic. We turned a sharp corner, and traffic was backed up in both directions as dozens of cars waited to enter the small parking lot. Be prepared for an affordable $3 parking fee. Leashed dogs are allowed and in abundance. Facilities include a permanent porta potty and decks to overlook the falls for those unable to traverse down the slick, steep walkway. There are few stairs with a paved walkway and benches along the way for those needing respite or just wanting to soak in the view. When the sun shines, rainbows dance along the foot of the falls. The challenging drive is a daunting task worth the reward of walking behind a waterfall.
