Off the Beaten Path
Join me on an adventure. Where will we go today?
We ran up Saturday to the Hiawassee Wilderness Refuge to see the cranes on the lake. In the past, we have seen thousands. This past weekend, there were a few hundreds, nothing like the huge flocks we have seen in the past. A regular birdwatcher from the area said the first group that migrated came through already. The ones hanging out are wintering on the lake. She said the next big group comes through in February from Michigan and Canada. We will venture back up there in a few weeks and will report back to our readers. While the drive was lovely and the views picturesque, alas, the birds were small in number. Bonus to the birdwatching, we saw a graceful white swan gliding across the water.
